Hiiiii!
I’ve been a bit scarce here, given some short term obligations, and there has been much to mention in San Francisco public schools watching. The Eyes on the SF Board of Ed and SFUSD are ever watching! Hope you and your family are having a good year. And best wishes for the Lunar New Year, including a Niners Super Bowl win!
The main reason for this post is to encourage you and yours to vote in this March elections. You should have your ballot delivered to your home by now. Please vote before or on Tuesday March 5, as these local elections have big consequences.
First, I encourage you to vote for candidates for the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee (DCCC). This group of 24 open positions is elected for four year terms. They deliberate over the SF Democratic Party endorsements, making a big impression on many voters.
I am running as part of great slate of folks in State Assembly District 17, the San Francisco Democrats of Change DCCC slate. There are 14 of us, “moderates,” including Assistant District Attorney Nancy Tung, Supervisor Matt Dorsey, and many active, caring folks. We are common sense people, who want to fix San Francisco problems, including public safety and public education. The difference between us and the other slate is ginormous, as that slate represents the far left ideology of a small number of the city and don’t offer any major changes from the current out-of-touch DCCC. For those on the AD19 side, definitely consider the 10 folks on the Democrats for Change slate as well!
Second, consider supporting our public school students by supporting Proposition G, and bringing algebra back to eighth grade! This policy recommendation is so needed as we have seen time and time again that the school district disappoints us again and again with their lofty words and terrible execution. I am a big supporter of this measure with African American parents and grandparents, and many immigrant families.
There is a big launch rally for Yes on Prop G tomorrow, Sunday, February 11th, 10 am, at the Outer Sunset Farmers Market, right next to St. Ignatius High School. Many electeds will speak, including co-sponsors Supervisor Joel Engardio and Supervisor Ahsha Safai. Here’s the signup document.
Go Niners!
Happy Mardi Gras and Happy Valentine’s Day for all who celebrate!
